Ninian Lowis of Merchiston was from a branch of the Napier family based on southern Scotland near Edinburgh. He lived during the seventeenth century. This work concerns his life, family, and descendants.
Written by a descendant of Lowis of Merchiston, Geoffrey Lyttelton Lowis. A presentation copy from the author, including an inscription to the front free-endpaper: 'For Reggie's daughter Mary, With love from her second cousin, Geoffrey Lowis, Oct 1972'.
Including extracts from The Plean Papers, and containing numerous in-text illustrations and a folding family tree of the Lowis family.
A fascinating, completely unique, and very scarce work.
Condition
In the original cloth binding. Externally, smart, with minor shelf wear and some light staining to the rear board. Author's ink inscription to the front free-endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Some light spotting to the first and last few pages, but otherwise pages are bright and clean.
