In this short story, Amis tells the story of an ageing poet considering the value of the art he has previously created. The work is credited for its satirical approach to a poet and their work. Kingsley Amis was an English novelist, poet, critic and teacher. Amis's first novel Lucky Jim was an immediate success and marked the beginning of a long career in writing. He wrote more than 40 books, including 20 novels and many volumes of poetry. In 2008, The Times ranked Amis 13th on their list of the top fifty greatest British writers since 1945.
