The first edition of this work. In the original unclipped dustwrapper. 'The Maul and the Pear Tree' is a true crime work on the Ratcliff Highway murders of 1811, two attacks on two seperate families that resulted in seven deaths. Illustrated with a frontispiece, and six plates. Collated, complete. Written by P. D. James and T. A. Critchley. James is best known for her crime novels, including 'Cover Her Face' and 'Death Comes to Pemberley'. Critchley was a British historian.

Condition

In the original publisher's cloth binding, in the original unclipped dustwrapper. Externally, smart. Dustwrapper with light edgewear and minor marks to the wraps. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean.
