The first edition of this work. Author's presentation copy to Tom Maschler, signed by the author to the title page, 'To Tom, with love - Desmond, Feb 1970'. Tom Maschler’s bookplate to the front pastedown. Maschler is a publisher who worked for Jonathan Cape, who discovered and published authors including Ian McEwan and Gabriel Garcia Marquez. An interesting collection of scientific essays, researching into the behaviour of vertebrate species, from the stickleback to man. Illustrated with thirteen pages of plates. Written by Desmond Morris, an English zoologist and author, best known for his work ‘The Naked Ape’.
Condition
In the original publisher's cloth binding, in the original unclipped dustwrapper. Externally, near fine, with some fading to the head of the boards, and to the head and tail of the spine. Bookplate to the front pastedown. Dustwrapper with a small closed tear to the head and tail of the joints. Minor discolouration and some marks to the dustwrapper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean.
