What Our Customers Say...

Description

Illustrated, Original Binding, Publishers' Original Binding, With Dustwrapper

Facsimile edition of this important work on the Great Western Railway originally published in 1846. Illustrated with thirty-two monochrome lithographs. Collated, complete. Depicting sweeping images of the many stations along the Great Western Line, this work presents scenic views of the countryside, towns, and industry from Hanwell to Bristol. Locations include Chippenham, Swindon, Box, Bathford, Bathampton, Windsor and Slough. Bourne writes that many of the beautiful structures along the track are missed by passengers due to the 'straightness of the railway'. The accompanying text provides information on general principles upon which railway communication is carried, and their application to this railway. Written and illustrated by John Cooke Bourne, a British artist, engraver and photographer, best known for his lithographs showing the construction of the London and Birmingham Railway and the Great Western Railway. Printed by David and Charles reprints of Newton Abbot, who produced many transport facsimile works.
