In the publisher's original cloth binding, with the original slipcase. A first edition of this reference book of the American silver collection in Yale University Art Gallery, illustrated with 1029 black and white photographs of silverware. Volume I gives a history of the collection, a glossary, a list of silverware with unknown makers, reproductions of marks, and an account of the silverware made in New England, as well as European silver used in America. Volume II gives a glossary, a list of silverware with unknown makers, reproductions of marks, and an account of the silverware made in the Middle Colonies and the South. Founded in 1832, Yale University Art Gallery is the oldest university art museum in America. The Mabel Brady Garvan Collection is the core of its American decorative arts collection and is noteworthy for rare examples of American silver.

Condition

In publisher's original cloth binding, with original slipcase. Externally, cloth is in excellent condition. Some bumping to the head, tail and extremities of the slipcase, which is also slightly sunned to the rear. Internally, both volumes are firmly bound, with very bright and clean pages.
