Description

First edition. Illustrated throughout with a map to the front of the text. Described as "a classic of children's literature", this novel was adapted into an animated film in 1977. The story follows a pair of toy mice who are joined at the hands and operated by clockwork. The mice are bought from a toy shop and end up discarded in a child's home, where they begin their quest to escape their fate and become self-winding. Written by Russell Conwell Hoban, an American expatriate writer whose work spans many genres, including fantasy, science fiction, mainstream fiction, magical realism, poetry, and children's books. Illustrated by his wife Lillian Hoban, a prolific American illustrator and children's writer best known for picture books.
