A charming look into the history of barometers in England, from 1680 to 1860. Including chapters on the operation of a barometer, varieties of barometers, early barometers in the seventeenth century, makers and barometers during the early eighteenth century, and makers and barometers in the nineteenth-century. 

Illustrated with a colour frontispiece, many colour and monochrome plates, and many monochrome in-text illustrations.

Written by Nicholas Goodison, former President of the Furniture History Society.

Including a tipped-in newspaper article from 2001 about the success of furniture dealers in London.

Condition

In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, lovely, with a small amount of shelf wear. Original unclipped dust wrapper very smart and bright, with some light edgewear and a small amount of fading to the spine. A small closed tear to the tail of the fold of the front wrap. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean.
