What Our Customers Say...

Description

First Edition, Publishers' Original Binding, With Dustwrapper

The UK first edition, first impression of this work, in the original price unclipped dustwrapper.

The longest work of the Russian-American novelist better known for his earlier work, 'Lolita'. Composed between 1966 and 1968, and taking place in an alternate reality nineteenth century Earth where the Americas have been settled by Russians, the work is a family saga with particular focus on a mans love affair with his sister, Ada, whom he initially believes to be his cousin.

Divided into five parts, the novel takes the form of a memoir written by the man in his nineties, punctuated with his and Ada's marginalia, and notes from an unnamed editor. Due to this structure, it is widely cited as a notoriously difficult work to follow.

Condition
