The first edition of this work in the publisher's original cloth binding, with the original unclipped dust wrapper. This is the first and definitive account of Greek gems of the sixth and early fifth centuries B.C. by Sir John Boardman, a classical archaeologist and art historian who has been described as "Britain's most distinguished historian of ancient Greek art." Boardman distinguishes the various artists, schools, workshops and styles, and gives full lists and descriptions of surviving gems. Illustrated with over 380 reproduced photographs, 15 of which are in colour.

Condition

In publisher's original cloth binding, with original unclipped dust wrapper. Externally, cloth is in lovely condition. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean. Dust wrapper is bright and smart with just a little light soiling to the extremities.
