This is an informative work on the 'study of French furniture', written by Pierre Verlet. Using various accounts, memoirs, and domestic records, the author records and analyses the works of designers from the eighteenth century, as well as the high-class societies that were interested in them.
Contents include 'The Growth of Luxury', 'Traditionalists and Innovators', 'Paris and the Provinces', and 'Distribution and Decoration of Apartments'.
Pierre Verlet (1908-1987) was a French museum curator and art historian. Verlet served as the chief curator at the Louvre Museum, and was also one of the initiators of the refurnishing of the Palace of Versailles.

Condition
In the publisher's original cloth binding, in the original unclipped dust wrapper. Externally, excellent, with no noticeable faults. A few marks to paste downs and endpapers. Dust wrapper is very smart, with minimal edge wear to the spine region of wraps and light fading to the spine of wraps, including the reverse. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean throughout.
