Gilbert Ryle was an important British philosopher of the twentieth century and fellow of Magdalen College, University of Oxford. He is best known for his critique of Cartesian dualism, or notion of the "ghost in the machine". In Plato's Progress, Ryle endeavoured to challenge the academic consensus surrounding several key dates and developments in, and relating to, the life of Plato. Plato's Progress thus explores exciting ideas for the history of philosophy.
