What Our Customers Say...

Description

First Edition, Publishers' Original Binding, With Dustwrapper

The first UK edition, first impression, in the publisher's original price unclipped dust wrapper.

Capote learned of the 1959 murders prior to the capture of the killers, quickly travelling to Kansas to write about the crime, accompanied by his friend Harper Lee. Together they interviewed residents and investigators assigned to the case and took thousands of pages of notes.

Capote ultimately spent six years working on the book, labelling it a 'non-fiction novel'.

In a contemporary New York Times review,  Conrad Knickerbocker praised Capote's work as a 'masterpiece', and an 'agonizing, terrible, possessed, proof that the times, so surfeited with disasters, are still capable of tragedy'.
