'Hard Times' is Dickens' tenth novel, unusual from his others in its short length, and for not having scenes set in London. The satirical novel is instead set in the fictitious industrial mill-town Coketown.
Dickens wrote this serialised novel hoping to boost the sales of his periodical 'Household Words', which it indeed did.
Illustrated with a frontispiece, and fourteen plates.
Collated, complete.
Dickens is one of the most popular authors of the Victorian age. His novels show the grimy side of poverty and prosperity in Victorian England, showing poor social conditions alongside repulsive characters.
