First edition, first impression copies. Volume one was published in 1966, volume two in 1967, volume three in 1971, volume four in 1975 and volume eight in 1988.
Five volumes of the eight volume set of the biography of Winston S. Churchill, missing volumes v, vi and vii.
Volumes two and eight are inscribed to John Michael Woodhouse to the front free endpaper, also with twelve centenary edition dedication cards for John Woodhouse, sent within the volumes by authority of the Churchill Centenary Trust for the Collected Works of Sir Winston Churchill. John Woodhouse was a British Army officer who is credited with helping to reform the Special Air Service. While commanding with 1st Battalion, East Surrey Regiment, he received his Military Cross. Woodhouse joined the SAS in 1950 and the rigorous systems he developed over three years provided the basis of selection and training of the modern SAS.
Volume one (1966) by Randolph S. Churchill covers Churchill's youth from 1874-1900, with thirty plates and eight maps and three folding genealogical tables to the rear.
Volume two (1967) by Randolph S. Churchill covers the period of Churchill's life as a young statesman from 1901-1914. With thirty two plates and two maps.
Volume three (1971) by Martin Gilbert covers the First World War and the period of 1914-1916. With thirty two pages of illustrations, with the inner flap of the dust wrapper to the rear of the volume.
Volume four (1975) by Martin Gilbert covers the period from 1916-1922. With twenty eight pages of illustrations and thirteen maps.
Volume eight 'Never Despair' Winston Churchill 1945-1965 (1988) by Martin Gilbert has eleven maps and thirty eight illustrations.
Collated, complete.
Condition
All are in the original cloth binding. Externally, excellent. Small mark to the spine of vol. ii. Volumes two and eight are inscribed to John Michael Woodhouse to the front free endpaper. Internally, firmly bound with bright and clean pages.
