"A single Anglo-Irish family provides the extremely diverse characters." "The later scenes, with their violence, muddle, purpose and distraction, are so convincing that the reader breathes the very air of the sombre, rain-soaked Dublin streets." Iris Murdoch was a prolific author, publishing many novels during her life. Some of the others include 'Under the Net', 'The Bell', 'The Italian Girl', 'Henry and Cato', and 'The Sea The Sea'.
