Illustrated, Limited Edition, Scarce, With Slipcase

Number 172 of 1,000 copies printed. This work looks at the Norwich Cathedral at the end of the eighteenth century. Loosely inserted is a promotional leaflet for a publication by the Basilisk Press, London: 'The Red Books of Humphry Repton'. With a detailed preface, and introduction which highlights the architects William Wilkins Sr and John Adey Repton, whose drawings are used to this work. There are sixteen plates to this work total, including one folding diagram of the church. Collated, complete. Each design has an accompanying technical description of the drawing, descriptions from William Wilkins' manuscript and supplementary notes. The construction of Norwich Cathedral began in 1096 before its completion in 1145. It has the second largest cloisters in England, only exceeded by Salisbury Cathedral.

Condition

In the publisher's original cloth binding, with original slipcase. Externally, very smart, with just a few light marks to the boards. Original slipcase is generally smart with minor loss to the head and tail of spine and opening. A few marks to slipcase boards. Bookplate to the front pastedown indicating the limitation. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright, and clean. Slipcase is in a VERY GOOD condition.
