What Our Customers Say...

Description

Colour Plates, First Edition, Illustrated, Publishers' Original Binding, Very Scarce

A very scarce first edition commemorative special issue on the 1964 Summer Olympics, held in Tokyo.

In Japanese with English captions.

Illustrated in colour and monochrome throughout, with photographs showing the lighting of the torch, the opening ceremony, and various sporting events.

Also including a detailed history of the modern Olympics with corresponding photographs.

The 1964 Summer Olympics was the first time the Olympics were held in Asia, a landmark moment which showed the vast progress the country had made since the end of World War Two. Yoshinori Sakai, who lit the Olympic flame at this event, was born in Hiroshima on the day that the atomic bomb was dropped on the city. His selection for this key moment symbolised Japan's postwar reconstruction and peace.
