1964 The Spire
What Our Customers Say...
Description
First Edition, Publishers' Original Binding, With Dustwrapper
The first US edition, first printing of this novel by William Golding, preceded by the Faber and Faber UK edition published in the same year.
The author of Lord of the Flies proposes a dark portrait of a man's obsessed will, and an evocation of the very feel and texture of the building which the will created against God's wishes. Confirming his status as a great writer, The Spire is a highly imaginative and original story, utilising stream of consciousness with an increasingly unreliable narrator.
William Golding was the winner of the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1983 and listed as one of the fifty greatest British writers since 1945 by The Times. He is best known for his novels Lord of the Flies and Rites of Passage, for which he won the Booker Prize in 1980.
