Part I, Part II and Part IV all bearing the mark of George's Park Street, Bristol to the front pastedown.
Uncommonly found as a complete set thus.
Albert Hugh Smith was a scholar of Old English and Scandinavian languages who wished to encourage greater interest in the study of English place names. These four volumes offer an incredibly detailed survey of the place names in the Gloucestershire area and an impression of their linguistic heritage.
Condition
All in the original publisher's binding with the original unclipped dust wrappers. Externally, very attractive with the odd, light, handling mark and slight bumping to the head and tail of the spines and extremities. Wrappers all have slight toning and spotting at the fore edge as well as some light handling marks and edge wear. One minor closed tear at the rear joint of Vol III's wrapper. Internally, all firmly bound with lovely, bright, clean pages barring a touch of age toning and one or two minor marks across the set. All 7 maps in Part IV rear pocket are especially bright and clean.
