Description
First Edition, Illustrated, Publishers' Original Binding, With Dustwrapper
Two copies of 'Love', a simple, but stirring short story about a little orphan girl. She is sent to live in an orphanage where she struggles to be accepted.
This set contains the 1964 first edition and a new edition published in 1998.
The work itself comprises a series of intricate cut-outs that lead the reader through the story in a unique way.
Illustrated and designed by Gian Berto Vanni, an Italian painter who worked and lived in Paris illustrating children's books from 1953-1960.
The story is by Lowell A. Siff.
Whilst both are very smart, the 1998 edition is internally more firmly bound, making it a more sturdy copy for use.
Condition
In the original cloth bindings. In the original dust wrappers, with the first edition dust wrapper price-clipped. Externally, excellent, with shelf wear to both only. With a small ex libris ink impression to both front pastedowns. Dust wrapper of first edition is lightly edge worn, with instances of rubbing and handling marks to the wrap. New edition dust wrapper is very smart, with very slight sunning to the spine and minor edgewear. Internally, first edition has several leaves detached but present. New edition is firmly bound throughout. Pages are bright and clean. With a neat contemporary ink inscription to the first edition front free endpaper.
