This novel won the 1963 Gold Dagger award and the Edgar Award in the United States. In 2005, for the fiftieth anniversary of the Dagger Awards, this novel won the 'Dagger of Daggers' an award for a Golden Dagger winner regarded as stand-out. 

With the publisher's original unclipped dustwrapper. 

This Cold War spy novel depicts Alec Leamas, a British agent who was sent to East Germany as a faux defector to feed disinformation about a powerful East German intelligence officer. Featuring Le Carre's already established character, George Smiley.

In the publisher's original cloth binding. With the original unclipped dustwrapper. Externally, very smart. Minor fading to the head and tail of spine. Dustwrapper is generally smart with chips to the head and tail of joints. Close dtear to the bottom of front joint. A few light marks to the wraps. Former owner's inscription to the recto of front endpaper, T H Keeley, 1964. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright. Occasional light spots to pages.
