A lovely work exploring stunning eighteenth century French pavilions. Some of those included in this volume are the Pavillon de Sully, the Pavillon de Hanovre, the Pavillon Colue, the Celle Saint Cloud, and la Maison des Musiciens among others. By Cyril Connolly and Jerome Zerbe.

Richly illustrated with a coloured frontispiece and numerous charming plates in black and white throughout. Complete in the unclipped dust wrapper.

From the library at Julian Park, Hertfordshire, belonging to Audrey Pleydell-Bouverie. Audrey was the youngest daughter of an Anglo-American lumber and steel millionaire, sister to Edward James, a key figure in the Surrealist movement, and the illegitimate granddaughter of King Edward VII. She was an English socialite included in The Book of Beauty by Cecil Beaton. A patron of the arts, she assisted Viscount Carlow financially in the publication of limited editions of numerous works by leading literary figures such as T E Lawrence, James Joyce, Wyndham Lewis, and others.

Condition

In the original publisher's full cloth binding. Externally very smart with minor shelf wear only and a minor bumping to the head and tail of the spine and extremities, a minor damp marking to the head of the spine and front board. The cloth to the spine has slightly faded. The dust wrapper is unclipped and very smart with minor shelf wear only and a touch of edge wear, with some chipping and minor closed tear. Internally, firmly bound. The pages are bright and clean. Richly illustrated with a coloured frontispiece and numerous charming plates in black and white throughout.
