Unconditional Surrender is the conclusion of Waugh's Sword of Honor Series which examines the Second World War and loosely parallels Waugh's own wartime experiences. The other two novels in the series are Men At Arms (1952) and Officers and Gentlemen (1955). 

Evelyn Waugh was an English writer of novels, biographies and travel books and is recognized as one of the great prose stylists of the English language in the twentieth century.
