What Our Customers Say...
Description
First Edition, Publishers' Original Binding, With Dustwrapper
A smart first edition, in the original unclipped dust wrapper with artwork by Victor Reinganum.
The best known of Muriel Sparks' works, and regularly cited as one of the most accomplished novels of the twentieth century. Spark was a Scottish novelist, short story writer, poet and essayist. Before her career as author, she in 1947 became editor of The Poetry Review, an impressive position for a woman in that period.
Set in 1930s Edinburgh, the narrative follows 'the Brodie set', six schoolgirls favoured by their enigmatic teacher, Miss Brodie, who exerts undue influence over them and seeks to mould them in her image. Confronting such topics contemporary to the setting as the Spanish Civil War, fascism, Catholicism, Calvinism and predestination, the work has seen numerous film, stage and screen adaptations.
