The first edition. In the publisher's full cloth binding with the original unclipped dust wrapper. An interesting anthology, presenting a selection of documents and works regarding the topic of Gnosticism. Including the early Gnostic writings, and fragments of writings which were likely in circulation two centuries after the crucifixion of Jesus. Gnosticism is a religious and mystical line of thought with roots in early Christianity. Edited by Robert McQueen Grant, the American theologian and Professor at the University of Chicago. Grant's work predominantly focused on the New Testament and he is widely regarded as one of the most prolific and influential American historians focusing on ancient Christianity.

Condition

In the publisher's original, full cloth binding. Externally, very smart with light shelf wear to the edges. Some bumping to the spine. Slight darkening to the upper boards. Small mark to the front board and spotting to the rear board. Scattered spots to the paste-downs and free endpapers with some light offsetting to the free endpapers. The original, unclipped dust wrapper is in smart condition. Some shelf wear to the edges with some chipping to the spine. Sunning to the spine. Marks to the panels. Internally, firmly bound. Pages very bright and clean with just the odd spot. Some scattered spots to the fore-edge.
