Description

First Edition, Publishers' Original Binding, With Dustwrapper

The first edition of this work. With the unclipped dustwrapper.

Novel by Anthony Burgess loosely based on Burgess experiences during his time in Brunei, on the island of Borneo between 1958 and 1959. It follows the amorous adventures of an Italian father and son as they work on the marble of a mosque that is under construction; interestingly, the Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddin Mosque was being constructed while Burgess was in Brunei and is the design of an Italian architect.

With a hilarious climax which coincides with the unexpected arrival of the rains and the ceremonial opening of the mosque, this exotic novel is both amusing and engaging.
