A very scarce French language edition of 'Alice's Adventures in Wonderland' and its sequel, 'Through the Looking-Glass and What Alice Found There'.

The first French translation of these works from translator Jacques Papy, published in November 1961.

Illustrated throughout with the vignette illustrations of John Tenniel. Upon the original publication of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland in 1865, Tenniel was far more well-known than Carroll, owing to his successful career as an illustrator and cartoonist, including many pieces for the satirical periodical 'Punch'.

Mathematician and author Lewis Carroll was best known for these work, which are credited the best example of literary nonsense. Whilst these volumes were initially intended for children, the word play, logic and fantastical themes present have interested and delighted scholars since its publication.
