First Edition, Illustrated, Publishers' Original Binding, Very Scarce, With Dustwrapper
The first edition of this work, published in 1960 to celebrate the successful history of the University of Tokyo, founded in 1877. The first imperial university, it is currently selected as a Top Type university of the Top Global University project by the Japanese government. A very scarce volume, with one hundred pictures of the institution by Torihara Eitaro. In the original Japanese language.
Loosely inserted, the English translation of the list of illustrations and an informative pamphlet on the University of Tokyo, with historical notes and plans in English.
With unclipped dustwrapper and one hundred pictures.
Condition
In the original publisher's paper covered boards, with titles stamped in gilt to spine and white on blue to front board. Externally, very smart with only minor shelfwear. Minor faint age toning to extremities. Slight rubbing to head and tail of spine. Loosely inserted, the English translation of the list of illustrations, as well as a pamphlet dated 1962 of the University of Tokyo, with historical notes and plans. Publishing information stamped to verso rear endpaper. Dustwrapper is unclipped and smart, with slight shelfwear and minor chipping. Internally, firmly bound. Minor age toning to edges, slightly affecting the gutter of the leaves, which remain generally bright and clean. With one hundred pictures by Torihara Eitaro.
