Two lovely first Folio editions of these comedies by William Shakespeare, being The Taming of the Shrew, 1960, and Twelfth Night, 1966. Both evolving around romantic relationships, that of Petruchio and Katherina, and of Viola, Duke Orsino, and Countess Olivia.
The text for these editions is from the New Temple Shakespeare edited by M. R. Ridley.
The Taming of the Shrew was introduced by Robert Atkins and decorated with designs by May Néama. This comedy was written between 1590 and 1592.
Twelfth Night was introduced by Peter Hall and embellished with coloured plates by Lila Di Nobili. Originally written in circa 1601.
Both volumes are in their original slipcases.
Condition
In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally lovely with minor shelf wear only. The slipcases are very smart with only minor shelf wear. The Taming of the Shrew is inscribed to the front pastedown with a previous ownership signature, dated 1960. Internally, firmly bound. The pages are bright and clean. Enriched with some coloured plates by May Néama and Lila Di Nobili.
