What Our Customers Say...

Description

First Edition, Publishers' Original Binding

The 1960 first edition of this work. This is an ex-libary copy, bearing markings as such, and with the publisher's original dustwrapper laminated to the boards, and flyleaves removed.

Overshadowed by Muriel Spark's next novel, 1961s 'The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie', this curious work tells the tale of a devil-like Scottish migrant who moves to Peckham and wreaks havoc amongst the lives of its inhabitants. Offering a critique of the sterile and unremarkable nature of the lives of Peckham's working class, the text draws upon the supernatural, and there is some debate as to whether it should be categorised as an example of magical realism.

This novel was once held in the collection of the Muswell Hill Public Library in Hornsey.
