What Our Customers Say...

Description

First Edition, Publishers' Original Binding

1959 was the inauguration of the World Refugee Year in Britain where the United Kingdom Committee announced a target of two million pounds. Despite the money raised there were still hundreds of thousands of refugees. Many had been in camps for over 15 years. This work was issued in hope to draw attention to their situation and to gain help. Kaye Webb was a British editor and publisher. She edited Puffin Books for eight years and founded the 'Puffin Club'. The illustrator, Ronald Searle, was Webb's husband. Ronald Searle was a British artist and satirical cartoon artist. He created the famous St Trinian's School and collaborated with Geoffrey Willans on the Molesworth series. Searle received many critical recognition for his work especially in America. He won the National Cartoonists Society's Advertising and Illustration Award in 1959 and 1965, The Reuben Award in 1960 and many more.
