'High Arctic' recounts Mike Banks' experiences on the British North Greenland Expedition from 1952-4, an important scientific mission of which Banks took part for both years.

Illustrated with a colour frontispiece, sixteen monochrome plates, and nine in-text maps.

Collated, complete.

With four chapters by Angus Erskine.

Drawings by Lilias Stirling.

Author's presentation copy, inscribed by the author to the recto to the front endpaper, 'To George Brown, whose voice on the amateur radio cheered us immensely during the polar darkness, with best wishes, Mike Banks'. Pencil note below 'N.B. this is not the George Brown who was radio operator in South Georgia in the mid-50's, George told me this when I asked him about it in S.G. in 1997'.

From the library of Eric Kenneth Prentice Back, with his bookplate to the front pastedown. Kenn Back was a British meteorologist with the British Antarctic survey for many years. He spent eight winters in the Antarctic and is a descendent of Captain George Back. In addition, he served as base commander at Halley, Faraday and Rothera stations. His library collection was built over decades and highlights his love of polar exploration.

Condition

In the original publisher's cloth binding, in the original unclipped dustwrapper. Externally, smart. Light marks to the front board. Minor bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. Light spots to the fore edge. Bookplate to the front pastedown, author's inscription to the recto to the front endpaper. Dustwrapaper is lightly edgeworn with some light marks. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean.
