The first edition, first impression.

In the original unclipped dust wrapper.

Including eight printed Christmas cards from the author and his wife loosely inserted, five letters from the author, and one letter from the author's wife, all addressed to Elise Goscomb. The letters are dated 1954, 1958, 1963, 1964, and 1967, and all exchange pleasantries, in particular after the death of the author's wife. Not all of the Christmas cards are dated, those that are are dated 1949, 1951, 1955, 1959, and 1963.

An interesting and entertaining history of holidays at the seaside, written by a man who is closely associated with seaside resort entertainment.

Illustrated with a double-sided frontispiece, and sixteen plates.

Clarkson Rose was a comedian and actor, known for his performances as a pantomime dame.

With a foreword by A. MacQueen Pope.

Nine signatures to the recto of the front endpaper.

Condition

In the original publisher's cloth binding, in the original unclipped dust wrapper. Externally, smart. Very light fading to the spine, and very light bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. Signatures to the recto of the front endpaper. Dust wrapper is edge worn with chips to the head of the spine and front wrap, and a few smaller chips and closed tears. Light handling marks to the dust wrapper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean with a few scattered spots.
