Illustrations include an illustrated frontispiece, as well as a beautiful designed dust wrapper by Rosemary Seligman.

Huxley's 'The Flame Trees of Thika' serves as a biographical account of the author's childhood in Africa. Within this book, she describes her time amongst the Kikuyu tribe, as well as her many treks into the Kenya wilderness. Interesting characters include an 'Edinburgh nurse married to an absentee elephant poacher' as well as a Boer farmer.

Elspeth Huxley (1907-1997) was an English writer, journalist, and environmentalist. She wrote over forty books, the most well-known of which is 'The Flame Trees of Thika' as well as 'The Mottled Lizard'. She wrote often about her time growing up in Kenya. She was also cousin to Aldous Huxley.

Condition

In the publisher's original cloth binding, in the original price-clipped dust wrapper. Externally, excellent, with just a bit of discolouration to spine. Ink inscription from prior owner on recto of endpaper. Dust wrapper is smart, with some edge wear particularly to the spine of wraps. This has resulted in some closed tears to the tail end as well as some chipping and loss to the head of the spine wrap. Some age toning and discolouration to the spine area on front wraps, as well as some of the rear wrap and to the reverse. Some age-toning to the margins of fly-leaves. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and very clean, with a bit of age-toning to margins.
