A very scarce work, in the publisher's original unclipped dust wrapper, from the Estonian State Publishing House. At the time of the publication of this work, Estonia was under Soviet Occupation.
This work was from the library of Scott's son, Sir Peter Markham Scott, a British naval officer, conservationist and ornithologist, and the only child of renowned Navy officer and Antarctic explorer Robert Falcon Scott.
A work of collected extracts from the journals of Robert Falcon Scott, written during his final expedition aboard the Terra Nova. During Robert Falcon Scott’s career he led two expeditions to the Antarctic regions, the 1901-1904 Discovery expedition, and the 1910-1913 Terra Nova expedition, on which he died, and from which these entries date. After his early death he became a celebrated hero amongst the British Public.
To the recto of the half title of this work is the bookplate of Jaan Eilart, dated 1969. Eilart was an Estonian ecologist, conservationist and cultural historian. In 1969 he led the establishment of the first National Park of the Soviet Union.
Condition
In the publisher's original quarter cloth binding with paper covered boards, with unclipped dust wrapper. Bright. Light discolouration to spine, with slight shelf wear to spine tail. Chipping and small losses to head and tail of dust wrapper spine. Internally, firmly bound. Contemporary owner's bookplate to recto of half title. Pages clean, age toned due to paper type.
