The first U.K. edition of this work.

This first U.K. edition was published after the first initial printing run of five-thousand copies in the U.S. in September 1955, after which is swiftly brought about mass controversy, published as a pair of paperbacks. G. P. Putnam's Sons published a first edition in August 1958. The novel was banned in Argentina, Canada, France, New Zealand, South Africa, and the United Kingdom.

'Lolita' is one of the most controversial novels ever published, and is considered to be a classic of the twentieth century.

The novel is narrated by the unreliable Humbert Humbert, who becomes obsessed with his step-daughter, the twelve year old Dolores Haze. Humbert dubs Dolores 'Lolita', and begins a sexual relationship with her after marrying her mother, Charlotte. Charlotte is later killed in a car accident, after which Humbert takes Dolores travelling across the country.

In the original publisher's cloth binding, in the original unclipped dustwrapper. Externally, fine, with very light bumping to the head and tail of the spine. A couple of light marks to the fore edge. Tape mark to the rear pastedown. Dustwrapper with minor edgewear, and a few very light marks. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean, with a couple of very light marks.
