This work is based on the false heroics of Dynamene's mourning of her husband in his tomb, and her reawakening to the joy of life by a handsome officer who enters the tomb to rest. Christopher Fry was an English poet and playwright. He is best known for his verse dramas. Illustrated by Ronald Searle. Ronald Searle was a British artist and satirical cartoon artist. He created the famous St Trinian's School and collaborated with Geoffrey Willans on the Molesworth series. Searle received many critical recognition for his work especially in America. He won the National Cartoonists Society's Advertising and Illustration Award in 1959 and 1965, The Reuben Award in 1960 and many more.

Condition

In the original full cloth binding and held in unclipped dustwrapper. Externally, lightly bumped to the extremities and to the head and tail of spine. Dustwrapper is age toned, with many spots. Chipping to the extremities and to the head and tail of spine resulting in some loss. Marks to the wraps. Spotting to the internals of the wraps. Prior owner's inscription to the recto of front endpaper, Gladys Burnie. Offsetting to the endpapers. Spotting to the first and last few pages. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright. Occasional pencil notations to work by a previous owner who used this as a working copy.
