First edition. Scarce work. Illustrated with a colour frontispiece, three colour plates, and many line drawings. Collated complete. A description of three gardens with which the author has been intimately connected - his own, his mother's, and that of the illustrator. Each with different soils, different possibilities, and its own creative invitations. Written by The Hon. Robert Gathorne-Hardy, a British prose writer, poet, botanist, and horticulturalist. Illustrated by John Northcote Nash, a British painter, wood engraver and illustrator, particularly of botanic works.
Condition
In the original green cloth binding. Externally, very smart with minor wear and light fading to the extremities. Original unclipped dust wrapper is also smart with light wear and minor chipping to the extremities. Light sunning to the spine with the odd small mark to the boards. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with the odd small spot, predominantly to the fore edge. Age toning to the endpapers.
