Description

First Edition, Original Binding, Publishers' Original Binding, With Dustwrapper

This is the first UK edition of the work, being a translation of the novel into English by Maurice Michael. The work was first published in Danish in 1953. This work is in original publisher's cloth binding, in the original clipped dust wrapper.

Sven Hassel was the pseudonym of Danish author Børge Willy Redsted Pedersen, who was most known for his novels about German soldiers in World War Two. This is evident in The Legion of the Damned, which tells the story of a young Danish-Austrian soldier being forced to fight for the Nazis after being sent to a concentration camp for trying to flee the country. Hassle describes the horrific experiences of the soldiers, but also conveys their humour remaining throughout.

With a moving dedication to fifteen comrades who 'fell for a cause which was not their own', including five women.

With publisher's advertisements to the rear and a Vanity Fair booksellers label to the front paste down.
