This work, sponsored by the Nuffield Provincial Hospitals Trust and Bristol University, culminates of five years practical and theoretical research into the design of various departments in general hospitals for the acutely sick. It investigates ways of organizing work in hospitals and provides examples of architectural and environmental changes that could help the performance of hospitals.
This work is split into 'The Ward', 'Outpatient Service', 'Operating Theatre Suite', 'Physical Environment Within the Hospital', 'Fire Protection in Hospitals', 'Some General Considerations Affecting Design' and 'Planning to Meet Demand'.

In the publisher's original cloth binding. With unclipped dustwrapper. Externally, smart, with some discolouration to boards. Dustwrapper is damages, with loss to the spine, front, and rear wraps. Sunning to the edges. Presentation inscription to the front wrap 'Presented to John Bramley'. Bramley's inscription to the front pastedown. Offsetting to endpapers. Internally, the work is firmly bound. Pages are bright with just the odd spot.
