What Our Customers Say...

Description

First Edition, Illustrated

The first edition of this work in the publisher's original cloth binding. Loosely inserted is a pamphlet on another publication concerning stonework. In this volume, Shore offers an accessible and illustrated guide to repairing, maintaining and conserving the stonework of historic British buildings and infrastructure, with information about different kinds of stone, and an overview of how stone was being used in the 1950s. Fascinating full-page photographs are used to accompany his examples. Inscribed by John Hooper Harvey (1911-1997) to the front free end paper, an English architectural historian who specialised in writing on English Gothic architecture. Paul Crossley has described him as "the most prolific and arguably the most influential writer on Gothic architecture in the post-war years".

Condition

In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally somewhat faded, with marks to the boards and spine; however, there is only a little light wear to the head of the spine. Internally, firmly bound. Spotted to the first and last few pages, but the rest are very bright and clean.
