Govind Sadashiv Ghurye (1893-1983) was a pioneering Indian academic who is widely regarded as the founder of Indian Sociology and Sociology in India.
First published as 'Caste and Race in India' in 1932, this is the third edition of Ghurye's revised work 'Caste and Class in India', in which he explores the origins, features and history of the Caste system; the relationship between Caste, British rule and nationalism; class and its role in the Caste system; and elements of Caste outside India. This edition also includes an updated chapter on Caste and race, which was dropped out of the second edition.
With appendices and an index to bibliographical abbreviations to the rear.
Condition
In the publisher's original cloth binding, with the original unclipped dust wrapper. Externally smart, with a little fading to the head and tail of the spine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean. Dust wrapper is somewhat sunned, with a little chipping to the head and tail of the spine, and to the folds of the flaps. Faint pencil markings to the rear of the wrap.
