The very scarce first edition of this curious and informative guide to a life of an airline pilot in the 1950s.
The first in the publisher's 'Men of Action' series, the dust wrapper asks the reader 'how many boys have not envied the smart uniform and longed to take the glittering giant into the air?', referring to the job of pilot as ' one of the most glamorous jobs today'. Chapters deal with maintenance duties, air routes, and the role of engineers on the ground.
With charming vignette illustrations from R. Barnard Way, and a number of photographic plates.
In the very scarce publisher's original dust wrapper, clipped to the front flyleaf but retaining price.

In the publisher's original cloth binding, with dust wrapper. Externally, exceptionally bright. Minor bumping to spine tail. Light spotting to fore edge of text block. Dust wrapper clipped to front flyleaf, but retaining price. Loss to head and tail of dust wrapper at back strip. Chipping and loss to tail of front and rear wraps. Minor sunning to spine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages clean and bright.
