What Our Customers Say...
Colour Plates, Illustrated, Publishers' Original Binding, Very Scarce
A very scarce work.
Dated c1956 from the text.
Each page is printed in colour, with twelve informational leaves in colour with both colour and monochrome photographs preceding the smaller volume, and twenty-three informational leaves in colour with both colour and monochrome photographs preceding the larger volume.
The smaller volume contains Raleigh branded bikes only and has thirty-six bicycles advertised in it, with thirty-six colour plates, showcasing each bike.
The larger volume has one-hundred and seven bicycles advertised in it, with one-hundred and seven colour plates, showcasing each bike. This volume contains Rudge, Humber, Triumph and Sturmey Archer. The work would originally have contained the same Raleigh bikes found in the smaller volume but it appears this has been removed and replaced with the catalogue for Sturmey Archer which was published in the same year with the same portfolio style binding.
Acetate sheet bound before the Raleigh Superb Dawn Tourist Model 13, the Rudge De-Luxe Super Safety Tourist Model 113, and the Humber Royal Cob Tourist, detailing significant features of the models. The acetate sheet before Model 13 is detached but present, loosely inserted before the model.
In a unique portfolio style binding.
A charming catalogue of the bicycles manufactured by the Raleigh Bicycle Company in the 1950s.
The catalogue shows many models of bicycles, with models for gentleman and different models for ladies.
Each bicycle is described in detail, listing important information on the frame, fork, wheels, gear, lighting, cranks, patent front fork lock, gearcase, handlebar, brakes, mudguards, pedals, tyres, chain, saddle, finish, and fittings. The information categories vary a little for some bicycles, such as the children's bicycles.
The work advertises the bicycles, and presents to the reader the special qualities and selling points of each model.
The Raleigh Industries Limited was founded in 1885, a manufacturer based in Nottingham, England, and is one of the oldest bicycle companies in the world, becoming the largest bicycle manufacturing companies in the world by 1913.
In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, smart. A few minor marks to the boards and spines. Boards are a little cocked. Internally, firmly bound in a portfolio style binding. Pages are bright and generally clean, with only a few light marks. Long closed tear to the head of the page for the Raleigh Trent Sports to the smaller volume.
