Noted for the existential themes in a minimalistic setting, this novel follows the survival and psychophysical plight of a navy lieutenant who believes himself to be the sole survivor of a military torpedo destroyer which sinks in the North Atlantic Ocean.
The personal copy of celebrated English science fiction author Brian Aldiss, best known for his 'Helliconia' trilogy. Associated with the British New Wave of science fiction, Aldiss received two Hugo Awards, one Nebula Award and one John W. Campbell Memorial Award.
Loosely inserted is a provenance notice signed by the executor of Aldiss's estate, his daughter Wendy.

In the publisher's original cloth binding, with unclipped dust wrapper. Externally, excellent, with just a touch of fading to back strip and board perimeters. Dust wrapper a touch age toned to back strip, with three minor closed tears to backs strip head. Internally, firmly bound. Pages exceptionally clean and bright.
