What Our Customers Say...

Description

First Edition, Publishers' Original Binding, Signed, Very Scarce, With Dustwrapper

The very scarce first edition, first impression.

In the publisher's original unclipped dust wrapper.

With a loosely inserted signed note on the letterhead of New College, Oxford, where Bayley studied and worked for over fifty years.

Addressed to John, the letter reads 'many congratulations on the super novel, which I assume on the evidence as its faculty, to be yours?! Shall we be meeting at the St A's? - I do hope so. Yours, John Bayley. I still have a book of yours by the way'.

Bayley's novel explores the effect of 'the first cold winter of peace' on a group of British servicemen stationed after the war in a small town on the Rhine. It is based on Bayley's own experiences as a young officer in the war.
