First published in the US the year prior, this was the final of American author John Dickson Carr's locked room mysteries featuring the amateur detective Sir Henry Merrivale, in which a long-dead Cavalier seems to be haunting a stately home, and Merrivale arrives to investigate.
John Dickson Carr, writing under the pen name Carter Dickson, was an American author of detective fiction whose to best-known fiction detectives where Englishmen, and often set his novels in English country villages and estates.

In the publisher's original cloth binding, with unclipped dust wrapper, retaining price. Minor bumping to spine tail, otherwise externally excellent. Losses to dust wrapper back strip head and tail, with minor loss to head of front wrap. Discolouration and handling marks to rear wrap. Internally, firmly bound. Pages clean and bright.
