First Edition, Publishers' Original Binding, With Dustwrapper
This poetry collection was originally issued by Penguin Books in 1948 and this is the first edition published by Faber and Faber. The collection includes the incredibly important modernist poem 'The Waste Land'. This poem is regarded as central to the modernist movement and following its first appearance in 'The Criterion' was published in book form. It follows the legend of the Holy Grail and Fisher King. This anthology opens with 'The Love Song of J Alfred Prufrock' which is regarded as a masterpiece of the Modernist movement. It was this poem that gave Eliot widespread attention. Other poems to this collection include 'Portrait of a Lady', 'Ash Wednesday', 'Whispers of Immortality' and 'Rhapsody on a Winy Night'. T S Eliot is regarded as one of the twentieth century's major poets and was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1948 for his 'outstanding pioneer contribution to present-day poetry'. A smart example of this signed poetry collection, by this important and influential twentieth century poet.
Condition
In the publisher's original cloth binding. Held in the original unclipped dustwrapper. Externally, very smart with just some minor shelfwear to the head and tail of spine. Dustwrapper is generally smart with rubbing to the head and tail of spine. Small chips to the head of spine. Scattered spots to the rear wrap. T S Eliot's signature to the title page. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean.
