Description
First Edition, Publishers' Original Binding
The first edition, first impression.
An anthology of fourteen short stories from British science fiction writer John Wyndham, best known for novels 'The Day of the Triffids' and 'The Midwich Cuckoos', both subject to classic film adaptations in the early 1960s.
The titular story of this work was later to be adapted by Alfred Hitchcock in an episode of his long running television series 'Alfred Hitchcock Presents', where it was retitled as 'Maria'.
Between 1925 and 1931, Wyndham sold short stories and serial fiction to American Science Fiction magazines. He halted his writing career during the Second World War, but soon returned to even greater success. He is now viewed as one of the best and most prominent authors of the Golden Age of Science Fiction, alongside the likes of Robert Heinlein, Isaac Asimov and Alfred Bester.
